Carolinas–Virginias Commercial Lending Schools

- Annual Commercial Lending School
The Commercial Lending School is designed to provide individuals in the commercial lending field an opportunity to study the fundamentals considered essential to sound commercial lending practices. The school will provide a solid foundation for the continued professional development of commercial lending officers. This intensive four and a half day course will focus on topics such as loan policy and administration, financial projections and credit structuring, commercial real estate lending, credit culture, and the development, analysis, and use of credit information studies/loan committee presentations. Case studies will be highly emphasized with significant preparation required prior to attendance and throughout the week of the school.
- Annual Advanced Commercial Lending School
The Advanced Commercial Lending School is designed for experienced commercial lenders desiring to expand their knowledge of professional practices. This intensive four and a half day course will focus on topics identified by leading commercial lending executives as being critical for individuals advancing in this field. Case studies will be highly emphasized with significant preparation required prior to attendance and throughout the week of the school.
Integral to the Advanced Commercial Lending School is the RMA Mentor & Trade Loan Structuring for Commercial Lenders course. When a loan is structured correctly, the likelihood of repayment increases dramatically. When proper procedures are not followed, the bank assumes unnecessary risk. The objective of this course is to improve the odds for the bank by providing participants with an understanding of the fundamental principles behind structuring a commercial loan.
- Annual Commercial Real Estate Lending School
The intensive Commercial Real Estate Lending School is designed for experienced commercial lenders desiring to expand their knowledge of real estate lending practices. Topics covered will include commercial properties (multi-family, office, industrial, and retail), construction lending, developer cash flow, workouts, risks in real estate lending, land development, residential construction, and appraisal review.

Minnesota Commercial Lending Academy

The Commercial Lending Academy offers a structured approach to learning the skills necessary for a successful career in commercial lending. Primary components of the curriculum include:
- Understanding how a business is structured and how it competes.
- Evaluating the role of company management.
- Developing a thorough understanding of analytical techniques.
- Applying analytical techniques in underwriting, pricing, structuring, and negotiating commercial loan requests.
- Proven curriculum, experienced faculty
The Academy uses proven training materials developed by RMA and is divided into three separate phases designed to maximize retention of information. The curriculum is team-taught by Jeff Judy and John Reik, both highly experienced instructors in the banking industry.
Jeff Judy has over 25 years of experience in commercial lending, international banking, operations, credit administration, and credit training. He has held positions with Continental Illinois National Bank of Chicago; Norwest Corporation; and AgriBank, FCB. Currently he is an independent consultant providing training services to the banking industry.
John Reik is the founder and president of John Reik & Associates, Business Training and Consulting. Reik's background includes eight years in credit training and corporate finance at First Bank System. He has also served as a lecturer and Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Minnesota for more than 20 years.
Who should attend?
The Academy is open to bankers who wish to gain the skills necessary to become a commercial lending officer. A strong working knowledge of general accounting, banking terminology, and financial statements is required.

New England Loan Officer Resident Seminar
Sponsored by The New England Chapter of RMA
The Loan Officer Resident Seminar is designed for junior commercial lending officers, or credit professionals with the expectation of being in that position in the near future. Participants should have at least one year of experience in commercial lending or commercial credit administration and a basic understanding of commercial lending and financial statement analysis. The L.O.R.S. program is an excellent continuation of RMA New England's Commercial Credit Analysis program, which is offered in the fall.
The seminar teaches fundamental credit skills and practical lending techniques using daily seminars in conjunction with related case studies. The week concludes with the popular "Mock Loan Committee," where students apply what they have learned to a presentation in front of seasoned credit and lending professionals. Instructors are either experienced lenders from an RMA member bank or recognized experts in their field. Based on feedback from previous classes and in recognition of changing trends in the industry, the program is constantly updated to fit the needs of the next generation of commercial lenders.

Pittsburgh Commercial Lending School

The RMA Pittsburgh Commercial Lending School provides high quality, modular training focused on the basics of credit analysis and commercial lending for:
