How to Promote Membership at Every Opportunity

General Membership Meetings

  • Highlight upcoming chapter events in your meeting announcement.
  • Use Leadership Talking Points in your announcement, highlighting benefits of membership.
  • Pair board members with nonmember attendees during the meeting.
  • Display RMA materials (journals, brochures, applications) at the meeting.
  • Make personal contacts with key prospects before and after the meeting. Personally invite them to upcoming events and follow up with them afterward to solicit their input and interest in other topics.
  • If your chapter sponsors a golf outing, have the board members create their own foursomes from nonmembers, including accountants, lawyers, and nonmember financial institutions.
  • Conduct joint meetings with other professionals.
  • Have your chapter create a Young Bankers Committee.
  • When your regional executive (RE) is in town, make joint prospecting calls with local board members and the RE.

Communication

  • Develop a prospect list of nonmembers for your chapter.
  • Send a personal letter highlighting chapter events for the year.
  • Give RMA HQ the name of your prospect and have them send a membership kit and recruitment letter.
  • Pair the prospect with a board member for the "buddy" system. Have the board member personally call to invite the prospect to chapter events.
  • Make sure the prospect is on your local mailing list so that he or she receives mailings on chapter events and the newsletter.

Administration

  • Develop and maintain a key prospect list on nonmember financial institutions, accountants, and lawyers.
  • Assign key board members to sponsor your chapter's recruitment campaign.
  • Keep the entire board involved in membership recruitment.

Resources

  • Contact RMA HQ for membership kits.
  • Use your administrator to maintain the prospect list.
