A look at the more complex issues in real estate lending

Course Overview
This course explains the more complex issues encountered in real estate lending, including the lease review process, extraordinary rental arrangements, ground leases, advanced documentation issues, valuations using discounted cash flow models, and more complex projects.

Who will benefit?
Intermediate Real Estate Lending is for real estate lenders who need reinforcement in the principles of underwriting or who are relatively new to commercial real estate lending, as well as commercial lenders, private bankers, loan administrators, and credit personnel who have taken the Real Estate Fundamentals in Commercial Lending course or want to learn more about real estate lending issues.

You will:

• Understand advanced valuation considerations using discounted cash flow models.
• Learn key lease terms and considerations and how to review leases in the context of appraisal assumptions.
• Learn techniques to analyze extraordinary rental arrangements.
• Learn interim (i.e., between appraisal) valuation techniques using current market or lease data.
• Understand CMBS (conduits) underwriting and processes.
• Understand issues in underwriting owner-occupied properties.
• Understand and apply more complex documentation and loan structuring issues.

Prerequisites
Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of commercial real estate lending and loan underwriting or to have taken RMA's Real Estate Fundamentals in Commercial Lending course.
