“Concentrations Kill” was a key lesson of the 2008-09 Global Financial Crisis. Given the sudden economic downturn associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and the disproportional impact on certain industries, managing credit concentrations has never been more important. This applies both to management of the current portfolio as well as the addition of new commercial business to support the economy as it recovers.
To provide you and your institution with frameworks for concentration and limit setting, this web seminar will review the most important aspects of a sound concentration management program as well as key considerations for the current pandemic period.
You Will:
- Understand the objectives and best practices around credit concentration and limits frameworks
- Benchmark your practices regarding concentration measurement and link your program with your bank’s risk appetite and stress testing process.
- Prepare your institution to better manage issues in existing portfolio in light of COVID-19
- Work more effectively with the originations side of the bank to ensure that new loans fit the bank’s risk appetite
Who Should Attend?
- Chief Credit Officers of all size banks
- Heads of Credit Portfolio Management, Credit Analytics, and Credit Policy
- Anyone involved in the credit portfolio, concentration, and limits activities of their bank

The session will start with a review of industry practices uncovered by International Association of Credit Portfolio Managers’ Concentrations Survey. This will be followed be a discussion of approaches to concentration measurement and linkages with risk appetite and stress testing, with special focus on the needs of mid-tier and super-regional banks. The session will conclude with a panel discussion by four bankers with deep experience in portfolio management who will take us through their journey of building a robust program.
