Back to Realism in Lending Plus Other Readings on Quality Credit Culture and Sound Risk Management
Realism in Lending, Plus Other Readings on Quality Credit Culture and Sound Risk Management combines classic work by P. Henry Mueller and William H. Sihler for The Risk Management Association.
Whether it’s their post-crisis book Realism in Lending or one of their individual pieces, each chapter in this publication stresses the importance of common sense, culture, sound fundamentals, and respect for credit cycles.
In addition to several RMA Journal articles by Mueller, this expanded edition includes an adaptation of a 1982 Mueller speech on the credit apparatus, and a white paper by Sihler called “The Old Bottle’s Gone.” In it, Sihler emphasizes the point that efforts to reform the financial system must start with the realization that the system has changed.
Mueller was formerly chairman of Citibank’s credit policy committee, chairman of Saab’s automotive division in the U.S., and founding chairman of the Darden School’s Center for International Banking Studies at the University of Virginia. His 1976 book Credit Doctrine for Lending Officers was used as a model by the Federal Reserve, banks, and graduate schools.
Sihler is the Ronald E. Trzcinski Professor of Business Administration at the Darden School. He has co-authored several books, including a trade book on the financial industry’s problems, and has been active in providing educational programs for various banks and for RMA. The pair has been sharing their credit wisdom with students, colleagues, and readers for decades. Now, for the first time, these key works are compiled in one volume.
