Commercial Loan Documentation

Course Overview

Commercial Loan Documentation is designed to meet the training needs for bank personnel handling the paperwork associated with commercial loans. The course introduces the following aspects of documentation: authority, communicating the terms of the deal, third-party involvement, legal evidence of the loan, commitments, letters of credit, secured lending including all UCC aspects and types of collateral not subject to UCC requirements, and loan agreements. The seminar also encompasses lender liability and general business law discussions.

Who Will Benefit?

Credit trainees, beginning commercial loan officers, commercial loan documentation specialists, and commercial bankers with little or no exposure to loan documentation, as well as experienced commercial loan officers who seek an up-to-date review of documentation requirements.

   

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify reasons for correct loan documentation.
  • Identify basic loan documents for which they will be responsible for in their banks.
  • Complete loan documentation checklists for loans of the type for which they will be responsible in their banks.

Methodology:

Commercial Loan Documentation is entirely case study based. This hands-on approach ensures more active involvement by participants, which in turn increases retention. Involvement also facilitates their ability to apply course content when they return to their jobs. The case studies that are used in this course are made up of practice exercises which require the participants to integrate the many skills learned during the course. The course is also designed to train bank personnel to recognize what documents are required in various transactions, to be familiar with the content of those documents, and to be able to explain the content to bank customers.
