Azlina Wetmore

Azlina Wetmore heads the Policy & Innovation organization at Capital One. Her mandate includes Policy, Governance and Assurance relating to Credit Risk within the Commercial Bank and Market and Liquidity Risks for Capital One. In 2020, Azlina delivered a multi-year program to simplify and fortify credit policy, leveraging on technology.

Prior to joining Capital One, Azlina held several leadership roles in Credit Suisse US, Singapore and Malaysia. In New York, she founded and led the Regulatory Risk, Governance & Strategic Transformation function focusing on innovation and technology solutions for risk management in the US. In parallel, she was also the Regional Head of Risk Change.

Previously, she was the Chief Operating Officer for the Risk Division reporting to the CRO for Global Markets & Investment Banking Capital Markets. She led efforts to build out the US Risk Management organization in compliance with Dodd-Frank. Her responsibilities included enterprise risk management, model applications, board reporting and running the Business Risk Office. She took on the COO role after successfully establishing the Operational Risk Governance for the Americas.

Before moving to Risk Management in the US, Azlina was driving New Business in Asia. In this role, she launched new products and legal entities in the region, operating out of Singapore. Major achievements include establishing the Mumbai Bank Branch and setting up the 5th Center of Excellence, with three thousand employees. Other accomplishments include building listed derivatives capabilities in Sydney and Private Banking products in Hong Kong and Singapore. She had initially joined Credit Suisse as the Head of Legal & Compliance in Kuala Lumpur and helped the bank to obtain the first foreign brokerage license from Bursa Malaysia.

Prior to Credit Suisse, Azlina was a regulator, working on law reform and regulatory policies, at the Malaysian Securities Commission. In this role, she focused on corporate governance and advised the Finance Minister during trade negotiations at the annual Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings.

Azlina is a member of the Risk Management Association and has been an ERM Council member since 2019. Azlina holds a Masters of Commercial Law from Cambridge University and a Law degree from Warwick University, both located in the United Kingdom. She has also been called to the Bar of England and Wales. Born and raised in Malaysia, Azlina now resides in New York with her family.
