Julia is a proven strategic leader with 20+ years of people leadership experience spearheading national programs to deliver results. Over 13 years of experience in Fortune 100 companies leading large, multi-functional teams that execute enterprise strategic initiatives and deliver on key performance metrics spanning multiple lines-of-business. Effective communicator able to influence employees from the C-Suite to the front line. Over 15 years of progressive, hands-on experience with Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), Written Affirmative Action Plans (WAAP), legal, regulatory and compliance programs, in addition to depth-of-expertise in program/project management through 6 Sigma and SAFe Agile methodologies. Former US Air Force officer with 11 years of service. My passion is creating a culture where employees are inspired to bring their whole selves to work and can reach their full potential.
Julia is an Executive Director of Process Excellence at USAA. She is accountable for leading the Disciplined Execution transformation and Process Improvement disciplines within HR. She led a 17-person team that provides Disciplined Execution, Program Management and Robotic Process Automation solutions to create a better employee experience and drive enterprise compliance.
In her prior role as ED, D&I Programs, she led the team that was responsible for overseeing the coordination and strategy of all D&I events, programs and activities at USAA. Previously, she was a Director of Process Excellence in P&C. In this role, she led a team of 6 Sigma Black Belts to provide process design, continuous improvement strategies, coaching, development and consultation for various enterprise and P&C initiatives.
Julia became a Certified 6 Sigma Black Belt and HR Manager for nine years at Caterpillar headquarters in Illinois. She led a team of 30+ HR professionals located in 6 states that was responsible for all US production, support and military recruiting. Additionally, she was the end-to-end project manager for Caterpillar's 1st enterprise-wide US military recruiting program, which integrated Dealers and Business Units and gained the company national recognition as a 2014 & 2015 Military Friendly Employer.
She served 11 years in the USAF as a Military Intelligence Officer commissioned through ROTC. She supported operations in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. A few of her leadership roles while serving included Chief of North Korean Ground Intel (Osan AB), Intel Flight Commander (Mildenhall AB), Chief of Target Intel for Special Operations (Mildenhall AB) and Chief of Pacific Command Intel (USSTRATCOM).
Julia earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Mississippi State University, a Master's degree in International Relations from Auburn University, and a Doctorate's degree in Organization and Management from Capella University.
