Mary Obasi is the Global Climate Risk Executive in Global Risk Management at Bank of America. In this role, Mary leads an enterprise-wide Climate Risk Management Program that drives responsible growth by advancing the use of climate risk factors to enhance preparedness for a low-carbon, climate resilient future. This includes embedding risk management practices to identify, measure, monitor and manage the financial risks posed by climate change. Additionally, Mary is part of the inaugural class for the Sustainability and Climate Risk certification offered by the Global Association of Risk Professionals.
Prior to this role, Mary was Chief Operating Officer, Process Innovation & Transformation executive for Enterprise Independent Testing (EIT) where she focused on delivering a customer-focused Enterprise Testing Utility offering high-quality, independent testing services for all teams across Bank of America. She was also responsible for driving operational excellence, supporting EIT’s role in responsible growth through the risk framework and ensuring that EIT is a great place to work by cultivating EIT talent.
Prior to this role, Mary Obasi was a Senior Manager in Deloitte’s Risk and Financial Advisory practice. During her tenure, she led strategic initiatives and executed technology and process implementation projects for leading financial institutions to ensure regulation compliance, cybersecurity, and effectively manage enterprise and operational risk. This included overseeing the implementation of programmatic solutions delivered in accordance with industry standards (e.g., Basel, NIST, ISO 27001, and COBIT). She started her career at Deloitte in the Cybersecurity practice and started with Bank of America in 2019.
Mary is an active participant in several professional associations and holds several certifications including the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc. (ISC)² where she holds a Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP) certification, Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), Project Management Institute (PMI) where she holds a Program Management Professional (PMP) certification, National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) and the Women’s Bond Club of New York. She is also active in her local community as a leader of Forefront Church in Brooklyn, NY.
Mary was born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland and is a Nigerian native. She holds a degree in Computer Science & Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and resides in Brooklyn, NY with her partner and two dogs.
