RMA to Recognize Award-Winning Authors at Annual Risk Management Conference

Philadelphia, PA (November 9, 2016)

The winners of The Risk Management Association’s Journalistic Excellence Awards will be recognized at RMA’s 2016 Annual Risk Management Conference next week in Dallas, Texas.

Each year RMA honors the authors of the best RMA Journal articles. This year the winning articles centered on culture, third-party risk management, tax-exempt lending, and the prospect of rising interest rates.

The Journal recently changed the structure of its longstanding competition to better reflect the full range of risk disciplines addressed by RMA. Rather than recognizing first, second, and third place winners, awards are now presented in four categories: credit risk, operational risk, market risk, and enterprise risk.

The winning articles in each category were:

  • In the Credit Risk category, “Demystifying Tax-Exempt Lending,” by Nevin Sheppard of BB&T.
  • In the Market Risk category, “Managing Market Risk in Anticipation of Rising Short-Term Interest Rates,” by Jim Clarke of Clarke Consulting.
  • In the Operational Risk category, “Board Oversight of Third-Party Risk Management,” by Bernard Mathaisel and Dean Yoost, veterans of multiple corporate boards.
  • In the Enterprise Risk category, “Barriers to Achieving Credible Challenge,” by Robert Prentice of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas and Yousef Valine of First Horizon National Corporation.

The winners will be recognized in a ceremony on Tuesday morning, November 15. The RMA Annual Risk Management Conference is being held November 13-15 at the Hyatt Regency Dallas. The conference features keynote speakers BB&T CEO Kelly S. King; panel discussions with regulators; plus informational sessions on the key issues/developments in financial services today, including fintech, compliance, third-party risk management, and cybersecurity.

Information on all of the conference’s speakers and sessions is available at www.rmahq.org/rmaconf2016
